Hello (Mobile) Tenno,

We released Warframe on iOS a little over three months ago, and I’d like to share an update on it and our future Android plans.

TL;DR: The iOS version needs a lot of love right now. That love will make the eventual Android version all the better. So, first, we are focusing the mobile team on addressing iOS fundamentals before moving on to our Android version. So Android Tenno, I know it sucks to wait more, but these improvements are crucial to making that wait worthwhile.

To our iOS players, thank you for playing and for your patience. While we have seen many positive comments and are very proud of what we have accomplished squeezing the game onto a phone… we’re not there yet. Too often, we see fundamental technical issues holding the experience back: ‘Can’t install’, ‘UI cutoff on iPad’, ‘Connection failed’ or ‘Hitching bad’.

So, it is time to narrow the mobile team’s focus.

We will accelerate our r...

Tenno,

Digital Extremes has been my home for my entire game development career. 20+ years for those counting (I try not to). Over 10 of those years have been on Warframe as you know it today, but in truth the Warframe story started much earlier. Warframe once existed as Dark Sector in my mind in the early 2000’s. Turning that seed of ‘Dark Sector’ into ‘Warframe’ has been a life-defining accomplishment for me and the Digital Extremes team. I feel like I can say: We did it. And in some ways, I thought it’d be the last thing we’d do as a team. But we want to tell another story.

Soulframe development has officially just begun. We hope you follow along. It’s only possible because the community believed in Warframe to allow me 10 beautiful years in the Origin System. Further still, the Warframe team believed in me, but more importantly, I believe in them. I know they can do great things with the story of the Tenno. And now, a group of us have set our sights o...

Tenno,

It has been 1 week since we released ‘The New War’ on all platforms, but it’s been many years since we first uttered its name. The New War has been a project of ours since 2018, and throughout the years it’s taken different forms. It finally released to you 1 week ago, built upon the elements of Warframe that have been years in the making.

We did it. Thank you for making The New War our biggest story update of all time. I'm so excited by your reaction and grateful for your patience and enthusiasm - I love reading about your theories and people noticing connections to the games past and future - it feels good to resolve bits of that story. If you played you know there's plenty of new weirdness in store. Since the early Closed Alpha days of 2012, we have set out on a quest of being distinct and uniquely Warframe. For us, the release of The New War will be an unforgettable highlight in what is now almost 2 years of IRL sepa...

We’re moving into “Next Gen” by phasing out our old rendering engine! The launcher option has been moved into the Options screen as we want to get more Tenno onboard for testing it!

Enhanced (formerly referred to as ‘Deferred’) is a complete redesign to achieve more accurate reflections and give us the ability to utilize dynamic lighting and shadowing across the entire game.

(Squinting) Aside from our landscapes, the frame to frame differences will be subtle. Precomputed reflections in the very shiny Gas City floors will be less distorted. The reflective glints on your Warframe won’t ‘pop’ each time you move between tiles. This is intentional as we’ve been diligent with ‘back porting’ our rendering upgrades to Enhanced to the Legacy rendering system. Our continuous upgrades to static path-traced lighting, parallax projected cubemaps, volumetric lights, lit fog, character light probes… work quite well in the legacy render...

No more Pay to Sleep.. so does this mean in the future I won't have to drop everything or miss out when a good alert pops?

Related, but in a different system.. could day/night cycles be looked into? I've tended to get soft-locked on some objectives for weeks to months because when I have time to play, the things I'd like to do are locked behind the in-game day/night cycle on Earth and don't become available again until after I have to stop playing.

Yes that is exactly what it means - no more dropping everything for an alert that you need.
Right now day/night isn't on 'fix now' list - focusing on the whiteboard development for now.

Will we at least see Limbo's and possibly Altas's deluxe skins this week?

Neither - hotfixes in progress though.

My honoured Tenno,

I hope you like my arrows - if you don't feel like reading, those arrows are what we're developing to ship soon.

  • Warframes 3: You've seen Hildryn and Wisp (two of the three upcoming Warframes).
  • Deck 12 - Exploiter: There's been cryptic videos in both of this year's Devstreams... blink and you'll miss it. Something is coming and I'm not just thinking about the Opticor Vandal.
  • The Gas City has been developing week over week and it's way more than 'just' an art remaster.
  • Melee: is something I tweet abou...
